This year our council once again sponsored a collection in support of the Stockings for Soldiers program. Stocking for Soldiers is an organization that sews holiday stockings and fills them with special items for the troops.
This holiday season, Stocking for Soldiers expects to mail 900 boxes of filled with stockings and they expect to deliver stockings to between 10,000 and 15,000 military personnel globally. Each person will receive a personalized stocking with their name on it and an assortment of items. For many, the gift is all they receive for the holidays and a reminder they are appreciated and have not been forgotten.
Collections in years past have been a great success, and this year we set a new bar, thanks for the generosity of St. Isaac parishioners.
Mark Saylor’s truck was ultimately full with boxes stacked 2-3 high. He even had to put boxes on his children’s laps because all would not fit in the back of the truck! Once delivered to the facility in Wilmington, Delaware, the donations completely filled two large carts!
A special thanks to Mark and his family, Terry and Maureen Scott, and Russ and Ellen Hendrickson for all their support. From effectively promoting the effort, to packing boxes, to delivering a truckload of donated items, it was an amazing team effort!
