Recent News:

Council Hosts Breakfast with Santa  - December 6, 2014
Santa Claus came to town, specifically St. Isaac Jogues Parish Hall, on Saturday morning, December 6, for the annual Breakfast with Santa event, sponsored by the council. Young children, parents and relatives enjoyed a catered breakfast in a festive atmosphere, and the children also enjoyed seasonal arts and crafts prepared by Dr. Linda Copel. Children then had the opportunity to visit individually with Santa and tell him their gift wishes.




 


Special Olympics at Villanova
 - November 8, 2014

The council assisted with the Pennsylvania Special Olympics held at Villanova University on Saturday, November 8. Two teams of council volunteers provided staffing for breakfast and lunch shifts at the south cafeteria. Pictured are the volunteers from the lunch shift, where pizza, hamburgers and other foods were served to the visiting athletes, their coaches and students. The council thanks Tony Trongone for organizing this service activity.







Induction Ceremony Held for Fr. Emil Kapaun
 - October 18, 2014

The Freedoms Foundation in Valley Forge was the setting for the Chaplains Memorial induction ceremony honoring Fr. Emil Kapaun on Saturday, October 18 at noon. Fr. Kapaun was a Catholic chaplain who served with valor during the Korean War. The induction ceremony at Freedoms Foundation was preceded by a memorial Mass at 11 AM, and followed by a lunch reception. The council thanks Bill Ristey for his leadership in organizing the event.





Council Hosts Silver Rose of Our Lady of Guadalupe
 - October 10, 2014

The council hosted the Silver Rose of Our Lady of Guadalupe on its journey from Canada to Mexico. The Silver Rose was displayed in the chapel at St. Isaac Jogues Parish on Friday evening, October 10. At 8:00 PM a presentation was given on the Silver Rose, with an explanation of its significance. The presentation was followed by a prayer session.


Habitat for Humanity Workday Held
- September 27, 2014

The council had a very productive day at the Habitat for Humanity worksite in Coatesville. The project team did some construction work as well as caulking and painting. The future homeowners worked with the team, and expressed their appreciation for the help.


9/11 Commemoration Held
- September 11, 2014

The council hosted a Mass for peace and in commemoration of 9/11 at St. Isaac Jogues Church on Thursday morning, September 11. Local first responders were invited as honored guests, with special emphasis this year on firefighters. Mass was followed with a ceremonial bell ringing (pictured) for fallen firefighters. Attendees gathered at the Prayer Garden patio afterward for coffee and light refreshments. A 24 hour Eucharistic adoration also followed the Mass, attended by members of the Knights of Columbus, parishioners, and guests.

 


Veterans Hosted at Cookout
- August 16, 2014

The council hosted patients, staff and guests of the Veterans Administration facilities in Coatesville to a cookout on Saturday, August 16th, marking the fifth year of the cookout series. The weather was nearly ideal for this seasonal celebration, with over 150 meals being served. Special thanks go to Bill Ristey and Frank Yanni for organizing this event.


Dancing with the Stars
- June 7, 2014 

The council held a special family dance event in St. Isaac Jogues Parish Hall on Saturday evening, June 7. "Dancing with the Stars" proved to be a very enjoyable and entertaining time for attendees of all ages. The Fred Astaire Dance Studio of Wayne, PA provided live dance performances and lessons. A wide variety of music by DJ Tom Dalton and delicious foods by Pepperoncini of Phoenixville were additional highlights of the evening. Thanks go to Ed Sweeney, Mark Watson and Tom Cummings for organizing the event.



 

Support for St. Malachy School
- April 24, 2014

As part of its charitable service program for youth, families and the community, the council made a donation of $300 to St. Malachy School. Support from private sources such as the council helps to offset operating costs for the school, located in North Philadelphia.


Parish Yard Work
- April 5, 2014 

Several council members worked in conjunction with the Boy Scouts to do yard work at St. Isaac Jogues Parish on Saturday morning, April 5. Efforts were concentrated on the Prayer Garden and the large privacy hedge to the east of the garden. The unusually harsh winter had made for some much needed removal of broken branches and debris. The grounds were significantly refreshed by noon that day. Pictured are (l to r) Dave Hobson, boy scout Mike, and Ed Sweeney.



 

Knight of the Year Award
- February 8, 2014 

The recipient of the 2013 Knight of the Year Award is Frank Yanni. Grand Knight Ed Sweeney presented the award in absentia at the council's annual potluck dinner. Frank was recognized for his regular participation in multiple council projects over several years, and in particular for his service as Grand Knight in the prior year.


Support for Local Seminarian - Feburary 8, 2014
In continuation of its seminarian support program, the council welcomed seminarian Daniel Arechabala to its Potluck Dinner on February 8. A contribution of $500 was given to Mr. Arechabala by the council to help with his expenses. Mr. Arechabala thanked the council for its generosity, and gave an update on his studies and activities. Potluck Dinner Hosted by Council - February 8, 2014
Members of the council and their families enjoyed a potluck dinner in the Parish Hall on Saturday evening, February 8, after the 5pm Mass. The challenging weather of the previous few days, including power outages at the parish were resolved in time to allow the dinner to proceed. Grand Knight Ed Sweeney served as master of ceremonies for the presentations, which included a presentation of financial support to a local seminarian, as well as the Knight of the Year Award presentation.
